The Monaco Grand Prix is the most prestigious race and only the very best have won around the famous street circuit. The true greats have won multiple times, Senna, Hill, Schumacher, Moss, Stewart and more.

The streets of Monte Carlo have also produced some of the most memorable Grands Prix in the history of the sport. The 2022 calendar celebrates the Magic of Monaco with these 12 entries.

January

Graham Hill

Graham Hill is referred to as “Mr Monaco” with five victories between 1963 and 1969. Firstly, behind the wheel of a BRM and latterly driving the iconic Lotus 49.

February

Ayrton Senna

Ayrton Senna is “The King of Monaco” having had a grand total of six wins. Possibly, he could have triumphed even more, as he had countless brilliant races around the streets of Monte Carlo.

Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg always drove superbly around the streets of Monaco, but it was his time with Mercedes where he shone, winning the Monaco GP three times in a row.

Stirling Moss

Sir Stirling Moss took three victories around Monaco , driving a Maserati and later a Lotus. He is recognised as being the most successful driver who never won a title.

Michael Schumacher

Michael Schumacher’s achievements in F1 are plenty, he won the Monaco Grand Prix an incredible five times and perhaps could have bettered that record if it wasn’t for various misdemeanours.

Jackie Stewart

Sir Jackie Stewart was another Master of the streets of Monaco, often delivering performances his rivals couldn’t dream of. Three times a winner around the Principality.

Monaco ’96

Olivier Panis won the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix, with just three cars crossing the finishing line. Pure Monaco history and a momentous day for both Panis and the Ligier team.

August

Monaco ’82

The 1982 Monaco Grand Prix was an epic tale with cars crashing and having issues leaving the crowd waiting for a victor. Eventually Riccardo Patrese won after having to bump-start his car.

Gilles Villeneuve

Gilles Villeneuve presented Ferrari with a much needed result in 1981, completing a remarkable drive in a race where many others failed to finish.

October

Monaco ’70

Jochen Rindt may have only won the Monaco Grand Prix once, but when he did, he did it on the last lap, over-taking Brabham for an historic triumph. It was to be the final win for the Lotus 49.

November

Lewis Hamilton

Sir Lewis Hamilton has dominated F1 in recent years, amassing three wins around Monaco. The first win coming in only his second season.

Alain Prost

Alain Prost was nicknamed “The Professor”, he drove in a style that was perfect for the Monaco streets, achieving four victories.
